Clubgolf – Beginners
Your club will hopefully be running Stage 1 coaching sessions for you which will be a 10 week block of lessons to get you started in the game. Once you have grasped the basics and have been able to get out on the course and practice a little, perhaps playing a couple of holes, you will be able to join our Skills Challenge days.
Skills Challenge Events
Girls who are just starting out and have completed Clubgolf Stage 1 may be interested in the meeting up with some girls from other clubs to play in a 3 or 6 hole competition for fun. In 2012 Northern Counties Girls Golf Association hosted 4 events at Muir-of-Ord GC, Royal Dornoch GC, Moray GC and Brora GC.
In 2013 we are planning events at Nairn, Forres, Muir-of-Ord, Elgin and Royal Dornoch which will also include some professional coaching. NExt event is on Sunday 8th September at Muir-of-Ord GC. Coaching at 12.45 and teeing off at 2.00pm. Putting competition.
Contact our Junior Organiser if you are interested in playing in these events.
Improvement Squad Coaching
We are aware that there are some talented girls in remote clubs that may not have the opportunity to attend Skills Challenge events. Also, girls who are advancing through the Clubgolf programme in clubs who would benefit from additional coaching. If you are the only girl in your club then we are trying to make a squad from neighbouring clubs to set up additional professional coaching.
Contact our Junior Organiser firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining an Improvement Squad.
This advanced programme which is a progression from Clubgolf Stage 2 provides 30 hours of professional coaching throughout the winter and is open to all girls who have a CONGU handicap and are between the ages of 11-17. There is also a further 10 hours of additional workshops for the girls and their parents to cover areas such as nutrition, fitness and exercise, psychology and learning more about the game off the course.
In the first year of the programme Northern Counties nominated 12 girls for the Nairn Dunbar Development Centre with professional Andrew Rollo, and 3 girls for Royal Dornoch with professional Gary Dingwall. These girls have now been asked to keep a record of the competitions they will be playing in throughout the season along with their scores so that they can evaluate their own progress following the coaching.
Girls will either be nominated for the Development Centre programme by Northern Counties, or they can self-nominate by completing an application form: click here to download.
Funding is available for travel and coaching expenses for season 2012-2013 supported by Northern Counties Ladies Golf Association, Northern Counties Girls Golf Association and Awards4All.
